Forensic Toxicology and Drug Analysis

Goals of the program

Drugs are one of the most common offences in Maldives. Most of the evidence submitted to forensic service directorate is seized materials from drug scenes. Hence it is very much in need of building up the capacity for the analysis of the drugs and urine of the suspected persons.

To operate the laboratory efficiently and to give a speedy service to the investigation officers it is very important to increase strength and continuous development of the existing staff working in the laboratory. The main objective of this course is to train and certify laboratory personnel as forensic analysts. Participants who successfully complete this course will be licensed by the Ministry of Health.

Outcomes of the program

Explain the main function of a drug laboratory.

Highlight the important articles of the drug Act17/2011 of the Maldives.

State the legal aspects of handling and analysis of drug related evidences and other type of evidences.

Perform drug analysis individually in the laboratory.

Give expert testimony in the court.

Manage workload of the laboratory.

Entry Requirements

Have completed diploma in forensic science OR Diploma in Biomedical Science OR

Have completed diploma in Biotechnology OR Diploma in Medical laboratory technology

Or any field of natural science
